circular saw blade, laser cut doily pattern from hand drawn design
7" x 7"
The saw blade doilies are inspired by the vernacular tradition of saw-blade paintings, found throughout the Midwest and other rural areas. They combine two traditionally masculine or feminine objects the saw blade and the doily. The saw blade is an object of work, practicality, and necessity; made of sturdy, solid, and sharp steel. The doily is an object of decoration, handwork, protection, and display; crocheted of soft linen, cotton, or wool. The combination of these two entities creates a new, hybrid form rendering each original object obsolete.
