16 Tooth Doily
16 Tooth Doily
circular saw blade, laser cut doily pattern from hand drawn design
7" x 7"

The saw blade doilies are inspired by the vernacular tradition of saw-blade paintings, found throughout the Midwest and other rural areas. They combine two traditionally masculine or feminine objects – the saw blade and the doily. The saw blade is an object of work, practicality, and necessity; made of sturdy, solid, and sharp steel. The doily is an object of decoration, handwork, protection, and display; crocheted of soft linen, cotton, or wool. The combination of these two entities creates a new, hybrid form –rendering each original object obsolete.
