Across the Sea
Across the Sea
clay, terra sigillata, iPhone, photographs on a looping slideshow, wood

A visual reference to antique nautical binoculars, modified to view a phone, upon which a slide show plays on a loop. The slides slowly align images of vessels that correspond with wealth and those with migration, desperation, and hope, all against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea and coastline.

Input/Output is a series of ceramic objects that serve to enhance, stifle, or focus the ways we interact with the world. The sculptures are designed as interactive experiences for the viewers. The project reimagines familiar technology, such as cameras, megaphones, and telescopes, in more rudimentary and organic forms, honing in on the abstract and sensory desires that brought about their invention.
